The Legal Industry Wasn't Ready for This

Marko Bradic Marko Bradic

For 200 years, the legal industry operated on a simple bargain: you pay for our time, and we’ll eventually solve your problem. No one questioned it. Until now.

The Uncomfortable Truth

Here’s what no one in legal wants to admit: the billable hour isn’t about quality. It’s about control. It keeps clients dependent, rewards inefficiency, and turns brilliant lawyers into expensive administrators.

A senior partner at a top firm spends 60% of their time on work that doesn’t require their expertise: document review, email chains, status updates. Meanwhile, you’re paying €500 an hour for someone to read PDFs. The industry calls this “thoroughness.” We call it what it is: broken.

We Asked a Dangerous Question

What if we stopped accepting this as normal? What if lawyers actually did lawyer work (strategy, judgment) while technology handled everything else? What if clients knew exactly what they’d pay before they started? What if “we’ll get back to you next week” became “here’s your answer”?

The usual response: legal is too complex, too nuanced to automate. Maybe. But “complex” doesn’t mean “must be slow and expensive.”

So We Built Something Different

Compound isn’t another legal tech startup promising to “disrupt” the industry with chatbots. We’re founders who saw a broken industry: one from inside, two from outside.

Our AI handles the heavy lifting: document analysis, precedent research, risk identification, first drafts. The goal isn’t fewer lawyers. It’s lawyers doing actual lawyer work. The 40% that requires judgment, not the 60% that’s glorified data entry.

The result? What used to take weeks takes days. What used to cost a fortune costs a fixed price you know upfront.

The New Rules

Fixed prices, because “it depends” isn’t an answer. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying before we start. No surprises, no invoice shock.

No hourly billing means no incentive to drag things out. We’re faster because we eliminated the waste, not the work.

And when you have a question, you get an answer the same day from someone who knows your situation. Not a paralegal reading from a script.

Why Germany First

We’re launching in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) because this market deserves better. Fast-growing companies here have been stuck choosing between expensive global firms or risky unknowns. Now there’s a third option.

The legal industry had 200 years to fix this. We got tired of waiting.
